The Vassalboro Community Quilt
A quilt made one block at a time, by hands from all over town. Bring a scene, a place, a person, or a memory of Vassalboro, and add it to something bigger.
How It Started
The Community Quilt began as an idea from our Curator, Susan Reidy: individual quilt blocks made entirely of Vassalboro places, people, and things. Anyone who wants to contribute can, and every block finds a place in the finished quilt.
Participants are welcome to use the VHS website for ideas (buildings, landscapes, faces from our archives) or to draw on familiar scenes from their own lives here. Blocks can be drawn with fabric paint, embroidered, quilted, or photo-transferred. There's no wrong way to make one.
Everyone is welcome. If you have a piece of Vassalboro you want to put down in fabric, come by the museum, and we'll help you get started.
On Display During Vassalboro Days
The blocks will be highlighted on a clothesline strung around our Heritage Village site during Vassalboro Days, September 12 & 13, 2026. The whole village is open 9am–3pm both days.
The completed quilt will remain part of the Society's collection, a growing record of how Vassalboro residents see their town.

Come to the Museum
Visit 327 Main Street during regular hours (Mon–Fri 9–1 or 2nd & 4th Sunday 1–4). We'll set you up with a blank block and answer any questions.
